‘Kennedys’ finds a Home!

After A&E Networks announced that it was not going to air The Kennedy mini-series, the show has been looking for a place to air ever since. HBO, Showtime, DirectTV, and many others said ‘no’ to the project, but ReelzChannel has stepped up to the plate to air Kennedys.

I watch the ReelzChannel a lot when I’m at home, they show a lot of film-nerd stuff, like interviews with directors and film dallies. This is a big opportunity for ReelzChannel to gain viewership aside from just film nerds like myself.

I’m so excited that people will see this mini-series. I’ve seen the trailer for it numerous times, and I think its going to be absolutely marvelous. I can tell from the trailer that the acting is top-notch. I think that this will be Katie Holmes best work, and she deserves for this to be seen. For whatever reason, the Kennedy family didn’t want the public to see this series. Maybe it’s too honest, maybe they want Americans to keep the shiny-rosy view they have of the Kennedy family. But want to see that the Kennedy’s were humans, too. They want to see their flaws that became legend, and maybe it will be good for all of us to get a grasp of who the Kennedy’s were as people.

It’ll be premiering on April 3rd, go to http://www.ReelzChannel.com to find it on your TV.

(Rant- This could have all been avoided if A&E Networks would have just aired it in the first place instead of succombing to political pressure to axe the project. From what I’ve read, the series was shot pretty close to script, and A&E Networks read and approved the script long before green-lighting the project. The Kennedy family may have a lot of power still, but they need to stop using it for evil. This is evil. Killing a project that doesn’t fit one’s taste is evil. NOT COOL CAMELOT. And now that there is a controversy surrounding the project, ReelzChannel can use it for ratings. If they play their cards right, a ton of people will watch this (more than what would have watched it on The History Channel), and all because the Kennedy family made a big fuss about it. HA HA.)

Disappointment of the Morning: No Kennedy Mini-Series on The History Channel

A&E Television Networks has cancelled the airing of the mini-series The Kennedys on its History Channel Network that was set to air in the spring. The show has been completed and was all ready to go, but the History Channel claims that “this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand”. (the full article from THR can be read here.)

This show is reportedly the most expensive program ever to be produced by A&E Networks and has been in the works sense 2009. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the project, however, the writers claimed to have backed up their dramatic interpretation of the Kennedys with a historical fact checker.

I think this is really fishy, and if the series is as good and well acted as people say it is, the History Channel could be losing out on a highly rated and award winning show. The History Channel’s “standards” are not exactly where they say they are though, as a regular watcher of the channel, I’ve seen programs on it that don’t exactly fit in with a History brand with high “standards”.

There is obviously a motivation behind cancelling this show that A&E Networks isn’t publishing.

If this is an honest portrait of the Kennedy’s, maybe the History Channel doesn’t want to rock the boat or cause any stirs. If that is the case, they need to stop being such cowards.

I’m pretty sure that a cable network like HBO or Showtime will pick this series up (I think they’re already in talks with Showtime) and since this show got booted off the History Channel, people will be interested and they will see it on a pay-cable channel.

I’ll definitely be on the lookout for this mini-series and I’ll definitely let everyone know where they can watch it.
